It's no secret...Nashville musicians are known, worldwide, for their creativity, efficiency and solidarity. Although Local 257 is third in membership of the "big three" Locals, our members do more recording under SRLA agreements than the other two locals combined.  We are well respected within the AFM and...since 1973...RMA Nashville has been a driving force for change and innovation...not only in Local 257, but across the Federation at large.

The world of modern recording is a quickly moving landscape filled with exciting capabilities... but also fraught
with unending questions concerning ownership, intellectual property, and value. Never has there been a
more important time for the Recording Musicians Association advocating on behalf of the members of our profession. One only needs to look back at the shameful wages paid to the legendary Motown musicians to understand that the ONLY reason today’s musicians continue to see any sort of sustainable income is the tireless efforts of collective bargaining, undertaken by our brothers and sisters in the AFM. As a specialized arm of our union, the Recording Musicians Association is the voice for our specific interests in ongoing negotiations in a changing world that is constantly impacted by new media and new technology.

It's quite, fortunate in these trying times, that Nashville recording musicians have been able to continue
working steadily...unlike many in other segments of our industry. The ingenuity, flexibility and resilience of our
music community is amazing.

Recent Live TV and Film contract negotiations went well. We solidified many advancements in these contracts...including receiving streaming residuals, which had been denied us up to this point. SRLA negotiations will resume in the coming months. The single most important thing that will give weight to our voice at negotiations is membership numbers. When we make demands (of those who would rather pay us nothing) we gain vastly more leverage from having you in our ranks.

The more involvement and input we have from our local members, the larger our voice will be in negotiating the best possible deal. Join us as we work together for the greater good of Nashville musicians. The stakes have never been higher, but the landscape has never been so ripe with opportunity.

The cost of basic membership is just $75 (RMA does not collect work dues).
As we all know in Nashville, "You must be present to win." Join Us!

In unity,
Officers & Executive Board/RMA Nashville
